You’re my Venus,
I’m on Fire Great last issue. Just a comment on Ben Aylsworth’s rant [“Women Paddlers Need a Venus,” Rapid online V7 I3]. I feel for Blithering Ben Aylsworth and his need to air his insecurities towards women in pub- lic. And so I feel the need to wipe the drool off his face and point him in the direction of the new sensation: Tanya Faux. Tanya has been around the Ottawa River for the past several seasons and is now tearing up the North American circuit, having recently won the Reno rodeo, and is sure to win countless future competi- tions. Here’s your Venus Ben. One look at her tearing up holes and waves will send Ben, soother in mouth, mumbling in search of a new crowd to whine to.

Poor Ben Aylsworth. A woman must have really kicked his ass on the river. You tell Ben it’s okay, we understand. No man should have to suffer such indignity at the hands of the weaker sex. No doubt he’s recovered now. Belittling a whole gender can go a long way toward making a per- son feel better about himself. Allyson Payne Toronto, Ontario
What a long,
strange trip it’s been Your magazine has an excellent feel to it and the production quality is great. If I were still young and healthy I’d surely get into the kind of whitewater paddling Rapid promotes so well. But the reality is that a worrisome heart, and increasing arthritis have forced me to quit paddling, even my beloved wilderness tripping, altogether. Ah, well, I had a great 25 years doing it and publishing about it. It’s always good to see my material used in fine magazines like yours.

Fraud Subscription I payd a subscription almost a year ago. I have not received any magazine and all I hear from you are excuses. I want a refund ASAP, no excuses, no sorrys. You are a FRAUD and If I dont see my
refund on my credit card this week I will place a Law Suit (bad news for you I am a Lawyer) and start writting in Boatertalk and all the paddler chats about the fraud you are. Of course I do not like to be taken as a foul and this will be personal. Miguel Lerdo de Tejada Mexico City
It is always a concern for magazine pub- lishers when we hear about the mail not getting through. However, your accusa- tions of fraud are completely unjustified. The address you provided is the one we have on file and I have confirmed that the last three issues have been sent from our mailing house with your address attached. Anything further is surely a mat- ter of investigating Canadian and Mexican postal services. Perhaps your postman is a river rat. No excuses or apologies offered, as requested. — Ed.
