Paddle/Pole Extender
You won’t even notice you are packing Outdoor Solution’s light and compact Paddle/Pole Extender until there’s a storm bearing down on you and you need a quick way to get your tarp up. Don’t head for the woods to cut a pole. Instead, grab two square-bladed paddles and slide them into the Extender’s two pockets. When together, the paddles will be tall enough to keep your tarp out of your hair. Students of ancient architecture may notice that the paddle’s butt ends give the pole a look remi- niscent of Greek ionic columns, but should keep this observation to themselves. Outdoor Solu- tions also pro- duces a full line of tarps.—IM

G S I Espresso Maker
Making European-style coffee with GSI’s Italian-made espresso maker only looks difficult. It works like a mini percolator: fill the tank with water and the filter basket with grounds, screw the lid shut and set it on the stove at medium heat. In short order, out from the spout spurts a bubbling brew. Just remember to have a mug ready under the spout. Makes four 60-millilitre shots or one high-octane mug.

Four ways to get yourself FULL OF BEANS
BY CONOR MIHELL
G S I Percolator
Te GSI Percolator eliminates the spilled grounds and slow boil times of el-cheapo camp coffee makers. It has the heft and sheen of stainless steel (though it begs for a campfire blackening) and the snug-fit- ting innards (perc tube, filter basket and filter lid) guarantee years of good service and honest blue-collar coffee. Four sizes are available; the six-cup model is great for two coffee fiends. $19 Cdn • $18 US •

M S R Mug Mate
Te simplest way to make campsite coffee is to do it cowboy-style, boil- ing the grounds in a pot of water. But cowboy coffee looks and tastes like used 5W-30. MSR’s Mug Mate filter is the second easiest way, and it produces a better tasting brew. Fill the filter with grounds, seal the lid and allow it to steep in a cup of boiling water. Also works for loose tea. $18 Cdn • $13 US •
