Upon hearing about SongCatcher, there was a wow factor surrounding the concept of the music creation software. An app that records audio and converts it to midi? Exactly, wow. You can also record audio only tracks via the inbuilt microphone (iPhone/iPad only) and midi tracks with the in-app keyboard for basic midi instruments – drums, bass, guitar, piano, horns etc.

The design and feel of the interface isn’t quite as smooth as some of its more comprehensive contemporaries, but SongCatcher is a useful tool to lay down a musical idea on the move.
