CALL ME WHEN YOU’RE SOBER DJ NATE PLANET MU
THE CAREER OF beat-maker and US native Diplo has been characterised by the unpredictable twists and turns that it’s taken along the way.
Coming to prominence for mining the beats of Rio’s favelas , both on his seminal ‘Favela On Fire’ and ‘Favela On Blast’ compilations, which displayed original funk Carioca beats, and MIA’s debut album, his later teaming up with Dave ‘Switch’ Taylor gave birth to Major Lazer, this time looking to Jamaican dancehall for his vocalists and Dutch
housers, such as Afrojack who co-produced their biggest hit, ‘Pon De Floor’, for the beats and bleeps.
None of it prepared us for his collaboration with Dutch trancemeister Tiesto, however, which reaches a new level when Wall Of Sound release ‘C’mon (Catch ‘Em By Surprise)’ with an added Busta Rhymes vocal. Like or loathe this latest reinvention, we reckon it’s going to be massive. And just as always, it did catch us by surprise.
