Learning with the NUT

Calling all young teachers!

All teachers aged 35 or under are eligible to attend the NUT's 2011 Young Teachers' Conference, being held from Friday 10 to Sunday 12 June 2011 at Stoke Rochford Hall in Lincolnshire.

The conference will include keynote speakers and a range of plenary sessions and workshops addressing issues important to young teachers. There's also a great social side, with plenty of opportunity to mix with other young teachers and enjoy the leisure facilities at Stoke Rochford.

If you're interested in attending, email youngteachers@nut.org.uk. You will be sent further information in the spring term.

Put the date in your diary now!

NUT learning reps

NUT learning reps have a varied role - helping fellow teachers access learning opportunities, promoting the NUT's national training, CPD and ICT skills programmes, organising local courses and events such as Learning at Work Day.

Take on the role and join the national network of NUT learning reps! You get training at the Union's national training centre, Stoke Rochford Hall - the course is free and travel expenses are reimbursed.

The next course is from 23 to 25 March. For information and an application form, call Pauline Hicks or Caroline Gatto on 020 7380 4780/4822 or email learning.reps@nut.org.uk.

NUT health and safety advisers

NUT health and safety advisers gathered at Stoke Rochford Hall in late November for the Union's annual health and safety advisers' briefing. This year's three-day course included presentations on managing back pain and safe use of social networking sites, and workshops on ill-health retirement, work-life balance and 'laughology'.

Health and safety advisers support the Union's health and safety reps, who play a vital role in promoting safety in the workplace. If you're interested in becoming the health and safety rep at your school, contact your local NUT association/ division - contact details at www.teachers.org.uk/contactus.

For details of all training opportunities for NUT reps and local officers, go to www.teachers.org.uk/training and click on 'courses for local officers'.
