GOOD-TIME GEAR FOR SUMMER

Sigg Water Bottles Whether or not you buy into the hype being dished out against poly- carbonate water bottles it has no doubt been good business for Sigg, the Swiss manufacturer of aluminum drinking bottles for 100 years. You don’t need to wait for conclusive health department research for a good reason to buy these bottles for your family, there are plenty of reasons built right in. Like for example an inner coating resistant to fruit acids and isotonic drinks and pretty patterns printed on the outside with enticing names like Night Whispers, Butterfly Dreams, Ninja Battle, Tomorrow Blossoms and Hello Kitty. Sigg offers 0.3-, 0.6-, 0.75-, 1- and 1.5-litre sizes, with a variety of tops including the standard screw cap, kids no-spill and smooth sports tops. www.mysigg.com Price: $15.99–$29.99 US

The Marshmallow Fun Company Blaster Just when we thought we couldn’t have more fun around the camp- site we stumbled on the marshmallow Blaster from The Marshmal- low Fun Company. In light of a serious product review I offer you our instructions for use. Insert one fresh, roasting-size marshmallow into the chamber (stale ammo jams in the barrel’s rifling). Lock chamber. Pump stock of the Blaster far past the recommended number of pumps. Aim from the hip (at friend’s backside), and FIRE! The POW sound from the Blaster is more threatening than the dull thud the marshmallow makes on impact, with impressive accuracy from 10 metres. A camouflage Blaster is also available. Not recommend for editors and children under 12 years of age. www.marshmallowville.com Price: $27.95 US

Eureka Outside Inn Eureka’s Outside Inn family camping tent is built along the lines of their popular Tunnel Vision series but in a freestanding four-pole de- sign. The system goes up in a jiffy and offers amazing storm cover- age and ventilation. The poles actually erect the fly or shell and the four-adult-sized sleeping area hangs from toggles and rings inside at one end. This leaves a huge three-way-accessible vestibule that doubles as a screened-in porch. This makes great sense for my fam- ily. In one tent we have space to be out of the sun, bugs and rain without crawling all over our sleeping bags. www.eurekatentscanada.com Price: $649 Cdn

The Flatterware Cup And from this issue’s what-will-they-think-of-next file we screw open the new Flatterware squashable cup. This little space saver is a fully functional cup that takes up less space for hiking, biking, camping or travelling. No more coffee mug clanging on your pack—this baby fits in the front pocket of your flannel shirt. Flatterware says it is made of the same stuff as Lego and is certified food grade TPE, which is the same rating as your toothbrush. And they say it’s microwave-safe, dishwasher-safe and freezer-safe, not that it really matters when you’re camping, right?
