MICHAEL CAREY Michael Carey is executive chairman of the Jacob Fruitfield Food Group. He is also non-executive chairman of the boards of both the Soul of Haiti Foundation and the Marketing Institute of Ireland, and sits on the boards of Bord Bia and the African NGO Traidlinks. Carey has previously held the roles of managing director at Kellogg’s (UK/Ireland), Fox’s Biscuits and Evian/Volvic (UK/Ireland) and was mar- keting director at Cantrell & Cochrane and Jacob’s in Ireland. He was recently named UCD Smurfit School Alumnus of the Year 2010.
JOHN HERLIHY John Herlihy is vice-president of Global Ad Operations at Google. He joined Google in 2005 and built its online sales and opera- tions channels in new and existing markets across EMEA. Previously, Herlihy held sen- ior management positions at several global technology companies, including First Data, PeopleSoft, Adobe Systems and Oracle. Herlihy began his career as a char- tered accountant at global accountancy practice KPMG in its Dublin office, before relocating to the US in 1993.
The prestigious Schneider Electric Award was won by a team from the CEMS master’s in International Management at UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School for their ‘SC Tree’ solar-change project at the Shanghai Expo 2010 Awards. The competition received more than 300 projects from business school teams from around the globe. The Shanghai Expo attracted hun- dreds of thousands of people from across the world, focusing on the theme of ‘Better City, Better Life’. The ‘SC Tree’ project was designed to enable slum inhabitants to become entrepreneurs by providing them with an ecological, technological and social business model that would make their environment more sustainable and a better place to live. The students were awarded a
RONAN MURPHY Ronan Murphy is senior partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). He joined PwC, Ireland’s largest professional services firm, in 1980, became a chartered account- ant in 1982, and was admitted to the part- nership in 1992 following a two-year sec- ondment to PwC in Boston. He was elected as PwC’s senior partner in July 2007.
AIDAN HEAVEY Aidan Heavey is chief executive, Tullow Oil. A founding director and shareholder, Heavey played a key role in the develop- ment of the company from its formation in 1985 to its current international status as a leading independent oil and gas explo- ration and production group. A chartered accountant, he previously held roles in the airline and engineering sectors in Ireland. He was recently named UCD Quinn School of Business Alumnus of the Year 2010 (see cover story on pg 18).
