One Way (Your Way) (Jiscomusic)
Part of Wolf + Lamb’s extended Marcy family (they work the bar during the famous New York parties, as well as performing live), we first chatted to No Regular Play, aka Greg Paulus and Nick DeBruyn, when DJmag TV caught up with them in London. Their new ‘Doesn’t Matter’ EP continues Wolf + Lamb’s excellent run of form, utilising the pair’s shared studies of Afro-Cuban rhythm in Cuba to inject a dose of loose-hipped musicality into house’s rigid four-four frame work. ‘Doesn’t Matter’ spreads its
nonchalant message through snaking synths and punchy retro chords, with Deniz Kurtel transforming the track into something altogether darker and more acidic. ‘Slide Away’ takes a broken, electronic route infused with Greg’s live trumpet playing, which Zev remixes into a perfect sunset terrace anthem just crying out for some sun to accompany it. All of which suggest that the irony of their name is only going to become more apparent with each release.
