WRG awards ultrafiltration contract Axium Process, filtration specialists, have designed, built and commissioned a self-contained ultrafiltration membrane plant for Waste Recycling Group (WRG), a leading waste management company, which is successfully treating up to 140,000 litres of landfill leachate per day at a site in North Lincolnshire. WRG reviewed technologies designed to treat landfill

leachate which would not only meet local water discharge requirements, but also increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the biological treatment system. Membrane filtration is a proven technology in the treatment of landfill leachate as it reduces the BOD and suspended solids content typical of leachate effluent.

SDS well placed to advise on standard A more sustainable approach to surface water management is part of the Flood and Water Management Bill currently in consultation. Sustainable drainage systems mimic natural drainage close to source where normal and extreme levels of rainfall can be better managed, so reducing the volume of water flowing into sewers and watercourses. As the only UK provider of surface water solutions to offer a complete solution from design, consultancy and manufacturing through to installation and maintenance, SDS is well placed to provide industry expertise to representatives of key stakeholders such as local authorities, water companies and private developers regarding the implications of the imminent Floods Bill.

Waterwise increases product range Waterwise Technology has introduced a super size 90 m3/h model to their range of Cobra Cyclone centrifugal dirt separators which are now all available with the option of a new tailored insulated jacket. The new Cobra Cyclone is the largest in the Waterwise CSF and STC ranges of sidestream filtration units for closed circuit heating, chilled water systems and cooling towers and has been developed as a result of increased demand from larger buildings and projects. The first of the new models is due to be installed at IBM in Portsmouth.

Koch selected to provide MBR modules Koch Membrane Systems (KMS), a developer and manufacturer of innovative membranes and filtration systems, has been selected to provide Puron membrane bioreactor modules for the wastewater treatment plant at United Auburn Indian Community’s Thunder Valley Casion in Lincoln, California. The project will upgrade and expand capacity at Thunder Valley’s existing wastewater treatment plant. KMS provided 12 Puron PSH 500 modules, ancillary equipment, controls, engineering and technical services for installation in two new process trains and as replacements to an existing competitive double header MBR module.

New impeller for sewage pump Wilo showed an extensive product range for water supply as well as sewage disposal and purification at the IFAT Entsorga 2010 in Munich earlier this month. A sewage pump with a new impeller shape was the central attraction of Wilo’s exhibits. This new development recognises that the higher the amount of the solids in sewage, the more aggressive sewage becomes. The impeller is designed for untreated sewage and combines a lack of susceptibility to clogging – similar to vortex impellers – with high efficiency which corresponds approximately to that of single-channel impellers.
