“First of all, I thought the seniors -- Jon Scheyer, Lance Thomas, Brian Zoubek -- showed a tremendous amount of perseverance and leadership throughout their careers and were deserving champions. This team had a lot of qualities that embody a championship team. They played great defense, they team- rebounded, and they played unselfishly as a group. Throughout the year, comments that I read from the players always talked about how they enjoyed playing together, and that was very easy to see from the outside looking in. Finally, as usual, I thought Coach K did a phenomenal job coaching this team and developing an identity and style of play that suited the strengths of his personnel.”

BOBBY HURLEY Assistant Coach - Wagner National Champion (‘91, ‘92) Regional Champion (‘90, ‘91, ‘92) ACC Champion (‘91, ‘92)

“The championship is a testament to how great Coach K is and how wonderful his basketball program is at Duke. To say this was a national championship team in mid- January I think is a stretch. However, they improved dramatically over the next two months, and the addition of Zoubek in the starting lineup made a huge difference. They stayed healthy and everyone played great -- starters and the bench. Congrats and I couldn’t be any more proud of my alma mater! Go Duke!!”

CHRISTIAN LAETTNER Former NBA Player/Entrepreneur National Champion (‘91, ‘92) Regional Champion (‘89, ‘90, ‘91, ‘92) ACC Champion (‘91, ‘92) NCAA Tournament’s All-Time Winningest Player

“It was great. Watching Duke take home the title was something special. I got to go to the game and be in the stadium which was unbelievable. And the game speaks for itself. A national title speaks for itself. I am really proud of those guys.”

GERALD HENDERSON NBA Player - Charlotte Bobcats ACC Champion (‘09)

203 WORTHY CHAMPS

“I was down at Duke this summer. Me, Laettner, Jay Williams and a couple other older guys played the current guys. We kind of had our way with them. These guys are half our age and we are beating them. I was a little worried about this year’s team after that, but they really came together and they played so well together. And maybe our starting five that day could win the national championship, but only if it was one game. I don’t think we could last six games.”

GRANT HILL NBA Player - Phoenix Suns National Champion (‘91, ‘92) Regional Champion (‘91, ‘92, ‘94) ACC Champion (‘91, ‘92, ‘94)
