World DMC Championships


We catch up with UK winner, DJ Jeppa


With the spectre of the DMC World DJ Championships looming large on Sunday 17th October, DJs from all over the world are locked in their basements, perfecting their turntablist arts whilst wearing nothing but their socks and power underwear. UK DMC champion, DJ Jeppa, has been domestic winner for the last two years, working the ones and twos since aged twelve after being inspired by DJ Hype - check his head-battering drum and bass and dubstep performances on YouTube, alongside more traditional virtuoso hip-hop cut-ups. He told us about the competition, his personal DJ philosophy and – more usefully - the best way to fend off a pack of ninjas using vinyl and a man’s raw grit. Peace, we out.

WE’VE BEEN BIG ol’ Mike Monday fans since his Andre 3000 sampling ‘That Shit Was.... ?’, a sexy slice of dirty electronic dancefl oor funk. So we were intrigued by his latest project and declaration that, ‘I write electronic music. It sounds a bit like Prince getting drunk with Mr Scruff in Royksopp’s house. And every Monday from July 19th until September 20th 2010 I’m releasing a new track for free. That’s 10 free tracks in 10 weeks.’
