The residential market place – have your say

Organisations already signed up to attend include Affinity Sutton Group, Family Mosaic, Genesis Housing Group, Harvest Housing Group, Soho Housing Association, Manchester City Council, London & Quadrant and Thames Valley Housing Association.

R

ESI is the flagship event for the UK residential property industry uniting

a cross-section of property professionals and senior decision-makers from the private and public sector, at the Celtic Manor Resort in Newport from 16-17 September 2010.

“Now in its fourth year, RESI 10 will focus on Opportunities for a New Decade as the residential property industry emerges from the economic downturn,” says Property Week editor Giles Barrie. “The conference and exhibition will bring together leading residential property companies from developers, investors and consultancies to local authorities, RSLs and housing associations to reflect on past changes and to plan for the future.”

RESI 10 provides an ideal platform for the private and public sector to come together and network with the conference programme providing a variety of forums for the whole sector to learn from industry leaders and the new exhibition layout allowing for more effective interaction.

Significantly, it’s a market place for the industry and it will be the

first time a truly diverse group from both the private and public sectors will have the opportunity to reconvene since the new government came to power and there is much to discuss.

For starters, the residential property industry has faced the toughest market conditions for a generation over the last two years. The sector is now starting to emerge from the recession ahead of all other property sectors but credit constraints and ongoing volatility in the market mean that the residential property industry will need to adapt and evolve to ensure continued progress.

Market recovery will be a key theme for this year’s conference programme and esteemed economist Roger Bootle from Capital Economics will be leading a keynote session to kick off the conference programme by discussing the economic outlook for the residential property market.

The RSL perspective – The future of housing provision will provide an opportunity to discuss the challenges the social housing sector now faces in light of the impending funding cuts, taking into account the need for the industry to be more

innovative in order to deliver affordable homes to meet demand.

The panel made up of Steve Coleman, Genesis Housing Group, Geoff Pearce, East Thames Group, Russell Poynter- Brown, Davis Langdon and Hugh Owen, Riverside will share their views, discussing amongst other issues the need for RSLs to pursue new partnerships and new delivery models.

The new government will also be an important topic underpinning discussion, particularly with regards to regeneration. Sir Bob Kerslake, Homes & Communities Agency and Sir Richard Leese, Manchester City Council, will be joined by Jackie Sadek, BURA; Liz Peace, British Property Federation and Roger Southam, Chainbow, for the final keynote discussion of the conference entitled Regenerating Britain.

The social housing industry is already well represented at this year’s event, demonstrating that the sector understands the value of attending an event such as RESI 10.

The two day event is also attracting leading industry figures including Gerald Ronson, Heron International; Nick Candy, Candy & Candy; Tony Pidgley, Berkeley Group; Steve Morgan, Redrow; Mark Clare, Barratt and Andrew Cunningham, Grainger Plc who will offer market analysis and their views on banks and funding and an overview of mega-schemes.

To complement the main conference programme, RESI 10 has a series of breakout sessions to explore specific sectors of the industry in more detail. Delegates can choose from two specialist topics to suit their interests, including student accommodation, sustainability, build quality, regenerating communities, property management, retirement housing, planning, residential design and investment.

New for RESI 10 will be a variety of breakfast networking sessions on the second day of the event that will give delegates an opportunity to interact in smaller groups and receive detailed information on core issues in an informal setting before the final two keynote sessions.
