ALBUM REVIEW

MINISTRY OF SOUND ‘Underground Ibiza 2010’

Ministry of Sound

Encapsulating the sound of Ibiza is a tall order, but the simple law of economics dictates that if you’re a label that thousands look to for guidance, you need to have a crack. Ministry’s 2010 takes the wise option with a series of three CDs set into thematic attempts to sum up the world’s greatest party spot. Disc 1 returns to the classics, with the well-worn grooves of Leftfi eld, New Order and Man With No Name joining newbies from Booka Shade, GusGus and Daft Punk. Disc 2 ventures into house territory, with everyone from Jamie Jones and Dennis Ferrer,

to Dirty South and The Shapeshifters, while CD3 heads to Ibiza’s new underground via tracks from Hervé, Etienne De Crecy and Tiga.

We have fi ve copies of the album to give away. Simply e-mail your name and address to joe. roberts@djmag.com and we’ll pick fi ve winners at random next week.

HANUMAN DJWEEKLY PODCAST #2

One half of Monkey Steak alongside Atki2 l, Hanuman makes ‘ruffnek beats and rude bwoy pop’. While he had us at ‘ruffnek’, this translates as a swaggering street-wise blend of UK funky, bashment, dubstep and dancehall, like you’re at every decent soundsystem at carnival simultaneously. In lieu of actually being able

to do that (curse you, physics), we have his Karnival Mix instead, which includes a load of exclusives and solo efforts. If like us you want more, check the Monkey Steak blog and label, or grab their releases for the likes of Actress’ superb Werk label.
