NewAR Roulette Side Bet is, as James Howard, COO of NewAR told Casino International,
“a new bet on Roulette, a side bet that sits between red and even, and another side bet that sits between black and odd. It all comes down to that in Roulette, the wheel is usually perfectly symmetrical; of the 18 low numbers, you would expect nine to be red and nine black, and they are. You’d also expect the odd numbers to be nine red and nine black too, but there are only eight odd numbers. Because of that, we have been able to devise this side bet that links together black and odd, with odds of 3-1 and a bonus payout for zero (2-1). On the layout, it sits right where you would expect, in the gap between black and odd. So the player is actually betting that the number that comes up is either an odd number that is black, or on the other side bet, on a red number that is even.

The maths behind it is very logical, it seems, and house advantage is easy to see, as James
elaborated: “If you took two even chance bets and combined them, it would pay 3-1 – but because there’s only eight black odd numbers and not nine, it increases the house advantage.”
NewAR is gathering momentum already in the UK, and at the time of going to press was on trial in 25 UK casinos already, expected to rise to 30 by the end of August 2010.
