Journal focuses on translational aspects of drug delivery


From February 2011, Springer will publish a new international, peer-reviewed journal called Drug Delivery and Translational Research. The bi- monthly journal, which tackles translational aspects of drug delivery, promises to provide a unique forum for publication of high-quality research. It is an official journal of the Controlled Release Society (CRS).

Translational Research will publish research on such topics as designing and developing novel drug delivery systems, with a focus on their application to disease conditions; preclinical and clinical data related to drug delivery systems; short-term and long-term biocompatibility of drug delivery systems; nanomedicine, and other state- of-the-art technologies. www.springer.com


EBSCO acquires two SAGE databases


EBSCO Publishing (EBSCO) has acquired two databases from SAGE: Criminal Justice Abstracts and Communications Abstracts. Now that these databases are on EBSCOhost, users will see an increase in the number of journals included cover-to-cover and searchable references for many titles,


says EBSCO. Users will also be able to cross-search these resources with resources such as SocINDEX with Full Text, Social Work Abstracts, and Communications and Mass Media Complete. Both databases will also feature a Publications Authority of key titles. www.ebscohost.com


Web of Science can be searched through EBSCO Discovery Service module


EBSCO Publishing (EBSCO) and Thomson Reuters will enable mutual customers to access Web of Science within EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS). Institutions subscribing to both EDS and Web of Science can search via the single search box of EBSCO Discovery Service, access the content in Web


of Science within the results and be able to link over to the full Web of Science record. Web of Science joins Baker & Taylor, the British Library’s Electronic Table of Contents File (ETOC), NewsBank, Readex, LexisNexis, and Alexander Street Press in the EBSCO Discovery Service. www.ebscohost.com

AIP launches new hosting platform


The American Institute of Physics (AIP) has released its next-generation discovery online platform, Scitation C³, powered by the Atex Polopoly Web content management system. Currently, the Polopoly system is hosting 12 AIP archival journals and three e-book sites, with plans to migrate all remaining AIP


publications in the coming months. The Polopoly Web CMS provides the tools for AIP to integrate its publishing process with its hosting system, to build content- driven functionality, and to create new versions of its sites for use on mobile and tablet devices. www.aip.org


Traumatic Stress Society launches journal with Co-Action Publishing


The European Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ESTSS) has partnered with Co-Action Publishing to launch the society’s new open-access journal, European Journal of Psychotraumatology. The publication will publish peer-reviewed original research as well as papers documenting


evidence-based clinical practice. The decision to publish open access reflects the society’s stand on free accessibility of research publications to a wider scientific community via the web. The journal is expected to go live with content during autumn 2010. www.co-action.net


Community module launches


Collexis, which is now part of Elsevier, has launched a community module for its Expert Profiling application. The release of version 3.6 Expert Profiling connects experts across the Collexis community from multiple institutions by research concepts.


The Collexis Expert Profiling community module enables the identification of an institution’s research experts based on their historical publications as well


as research experts from other institutions who subscribe to the Collexis Expert Profiling application. Additional features within the Collexis Expert Profiling application include the capability of finding similar experts, searching by key concept and provide the ‘Scientific Context’; that will display related experts, grants and publications based on the fingerprint of an individual grant or publication. www.elsevier.com
