This means that the reach trucks, low level order pickers, powered pallet trucks and other materials handling equipment found in any modern warehouse or distribution centre, are expected to work harder for longer and with minimal downtime. Jungheinrich is the leading manufacturer and supplier of warehouse trucks in Europe. In fact, such is the company’s dominance of the market, that one in three of all the warehouse trucks operating in Europe today are Jungheinrich products.

perfect for fork lift truck use. “Some manufacturers use software originally written for use with equipment designed for other functions. Because it is bespoke our software helps to increase both truck reliability and energy efficiency still further,” explains Craig Johnson.

In addition, all of Jungheinrich’s non-pedestrian warehouse trucks feature Curve Control technology. Curve Control automatically reduces the truck’s drive speed as it enters a corner if the steering angle is too tight for the speed. It does this by monitoring the truck’s speed, wheel position and steering angle continuously.

sector, Jungheinrich

“Some of the biggest users of our products are retailers, the warehousing sector and logistics service providers,” explains Craig Johnson, marketing manager of Jungheinrich UK Ltd. “These companies need to move products around the warehouse or distribution centre quickly and safely at the minimum cost, so they want materials handling equipment that achieves consistently high productivity at the lowest cost of ownership.” To achieve the twin aims of high productivity and low running costs, every product in Jungheinrich’s extensive range of warehouse trucks features the latest generation AC technology – which means that they offer class leading performance and optimum cost efficiency. Jungheinrich developed its first generation of AC motors back in the 1980s but the technology has moved on considerably since then and the latest generation AC motors offer exceptionally high performance. There are fewer wearing parts which makes Jungheinrich’s

warehouse trucks exceptionally service-friendly with less downtime and lower running costs as a result.

The trucks also all boast fully sealed electronic controllers, while the software has been designed and tailored so that it is

continues to invest significantly in R&D. “We are always looking for ways of enhancing our products to help achieve the needs of our customers,” says Craig Johnson. For instance, with the trend for higher lifting reach trucks Jungheinrich has developed a number of excellent

design functions that not only increase throughput and productivity but also have a significant effect on safety within the warehouse or distribution centre. Jungheinrich’s unique and patented reach truck mast damping system, for example, speeds lifting cycles by up to 10 seconds. Essentially when working at great height, forklift truck masts sway back and forth. For health and safety reasons it is important for truck operators to wait for the swaying to stop before attempting to deliver the pallet into the racking. Tests have shown that Jungheinrich’s reach trucks fitted with the mast damping system take up to 10 seconds fewer for an elevated load to stop swaying than competitive models. This has important productivity and safety benefits.

Jungheinrich’s higher lifting reach trucks also reduce energy usage – and therefore truck running costs – thanks to both regenerative braking and regenerative mast

lowering features. When operators brake or lower the forks, the advanced AC technology reclaims the excess energy and uses it to charge the battery. Around 25% of the energy needed during typical operation is reclaimed during braking and lowering through using Jungheinrich’s advanced motors as an alternator. In other words, one in every four lifts is energy free!

When it comes to pallet trucks, Jungheinrich offer a range of products that provide the best solution for any transport distance – from pedestrian trucks for short distances, through combined

pedestrian/stand-on equipment for medium-range operations to stand-on/seat trucks for longer distances. Payload capacities start from 1,600kg and, because Jungheinrich can build bespoke trucks to a client’s exact needs, have virtually no upper capacity limit. This means users can select the most economical solution for their specific needs.

being transmitted into the chassis – protecting the driver’s spine and the load, while the trucks’ side support wheels are linked by a heavy-duty steel bar and have been specially designed to avoid being broken off when used in and around the loading bay – a common problem with other makes of powered pallet trucks. Meanwhile Jungheinrich’s range of low level order

pickers offer high operating speeds and, more importantly, rapid acceleration. “During most order picking operations acceleration between picks is more important to throughput rates than the truck’s ability to hit top speed over long distances,” says Craig Johnson.

The ECE range of low level order pickers has been developed and honed in close conjunction with Jungheinrich’s bigger fleet customers. Its robust design and in-house developed electronics combine to offer class leading reliability and productivity. Craig Johnson concludes, “Safety, productivity and cost efficiency are more important than ever. With Jungheinrich’s extensive range of warehouse trucks, users have an unparalleled collection of products to suit every application. Which is why more than one in three of all the warehouse trucks manufactured in Europe are designed and built by Jungheinrich.” ● Tel: 01908 363100 www.jungheinrich.co.uk
