McCormick Foundation provides $3 million

Chicago’s venerable McCor-

mick Foundation is providing a $3 million gift to help fund a new program within Loyola University Hospital’s Emer- gency Department that will provide rapid high-level care for patients whose conditions require time-critical interven- tions. The McCormick Founda- tion Care-Accelerated Program will address both current and projected patient-care needs. Each year, physicians and

nurses in Loyola’s Emer- gency Department—a Level 1 Trauma Center—treat more than 53,000 patients. Look- ing ahead, the number of U.S. citizens ages 65 and older is projected nearly to double by 2030, with a concomitant rise in patients suffering from con- ditions such as coronary heart disease, acute infections (sep- sis), stroke, and other vascular and neurological emergencies that require rapid response.
