Advance notice of Dimplex’s Solar PV range
Dimplex is expanding its range of renewable solutions with the introduction of Dimplex Solar PV, a range of grid connected solar photovoltaic packages for the domestic and light commercial markets.
This technology uses free energy from the sun to produce electricity either for use directly in a building to power electricity consuming appliances or, at times of low demand, export back to the grid.
Solar PV has already proven popular in homes, schools, businesses and communities and
with no moving parts, provides one of the easiest and most reliable ways to future proof against rising energy costs, as well as making a significant contribution to reducing building CO2
emissions.
From April 2010, the new Government backed Clean Energy Cashback scheme will enable householders, businesses, public sector organisations and communities to receive fixed, guaranteed payments for 25 years for the low carbon, renewable solar electricity they produce, further underlining the commercial case for solar PV systems in the UK.
And as the increasingly stringent targets within the Code for Sustainable Homes and other building standards demand ever lower building
NEW HIGH EFFICIENCY AIR SOURCE HEAT PUMPS FROM DIMPLEX
Dimplex has introduced a new range of high efficiency air source heat pumps to meet the demand for energy efficient heating and hot water in both commercial and residential builds, including multi-dwelling developments.
The new range has been developed to provide levels of efficiency comparable with ground source units, yet without the need for associated ground collector costs. The range delivers CoPs in excess of 4.0 even at low ambient air temperatures and is available in a choice of five outputs from 9 – 40kW. All models are optimised for low sound emissions with an innovative fan blade design, electronically controlled fan speed and a sound insulated decoupled compressor housing, all helping to deliver near-silent running.
The largest in the range, the LA 40 TU, offers a flow temperature up to 58°C, although optimum performance is achieved at lower flow temperatures; 3.8 at A2/W35 and 4.4 at A7/W35.
The range is ideal for applications with communal heating systems such as apartment blocks and commercial facilities. For buildings with a higher heating load, several heat pumps can be used in parallel.
Where a cooling capability is also required, the LA 35 TUR+, a 35kW reversible air source heat pump, is ideal for commercial applications such as leisure centres. Giving flow temperatures of 60°C, it can also be used in reversible mode for cooling, whereby it extracts heat from the internal environment. Waste heat collected in this way can then be used for domestic hot water, or for heating a swimming pool.
Air source technology has minimal space requirements compared with ground source, and with relatively mild winter temperatures in the UK, means that excellent levels of efficiency and performance can be achieved throughout the year. With excellent CoPs, air source heat pumps can help to achieve high building energy rating scores for new build projects. They are also suitable for retro fit applications, especially where space is limited.
Get connected to save energy, time and money
Dimplex has launched a new heat pump network interface module which allows building managers, installers and end users to remotely set up and monitor heat pump operation for both domestic and commercial applications.
The new NWPM module is available for use with any Dimplex heat pump fitted with a WPM heat pump manager, and allows users to gain access to the heat pump controller settings either via a directly connected PC, a local area network or remotely via the internet.
The system allows configuration and reporting of the heat pump installation via a conventional internet browser (for example Microsoft Internet Explorer) and has the potential to significantly reduce engineers’ time on site by allowing accurate remote system monitoring and fault diagnosis.
play an important part in the whole building zero-carbon solution, alongside renewable heat technologies such as heat pumps, solar hot water and heat recovery systems.

The Dimplex range will be provided as complete system packages, including polycrystalline modules (panels), inverter, installation accessories and a range of roof mounting options for varying roof types. The range will cover pre-package options for system outputs of 1.44-4.7kW, plus options for custom specification for larger systems. Available Summer 2010.

heat pump choice
The government’s Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) has given recognition to two of Dimplex’s heat pump models, making them eligible for LCBP2 and CERT funding.
This provides professionals with more choice, but also an assurance of the quality and performance of the units.
And now BRE and Dimplex have agreed a method of certification for ‘families’ of products to be tested and approved together, so that MCS approval for the rest of the extensive Dimplex heat pump range is expected to follow quickly.
The two models which have gained MCS approval are the LA 40 TU air source heat pump and the SI 6 MEH ground source model.
The LA 40 TU is an innovative air source design (see adjoining article) while the SI 6 MEH ground source heat pump comes from Dimplex’s high temperature range, and is capable of flow temperatures up to 70°C.
