The Male- Minded

For some men, walk- ing into a salon full of women can be a nightmare. Enter the men- only salon. And guys, you can still get pampered.

The Men’s RooM BaRBeR

shop Although the industry has begun to recognize the need for male hairdress- ing, Trish Krumins was well ahead of the trend. This Shorewood salon, opened in 2000, is a local staple with five stylists, all trained by Krumins. With free cleanups between appointments and a slew of amenities (straight-razor shave, neck mes- sage) during them, services are a steal. Cuts $28-38; color $37 and up. (4423 N.

Oakland Ave., Shorewood, 414-961-9019.)

GRooM FoR Men This well-known

Milwaukee salon is where men go to get pampered. From simple cuts to color, waxing, facials and shaves, amenities aren’t hidden but served à la carte from a detailed menu. Groom takes barbershop skills to a high-end level with talented

stylists Theri DeJoode and Erica Grabczyk.

RazoR One-man show Anthony Leto

opened this upscale men’s barbershop two and a half years ago. He did all the painting and decorating and went for a contempo- rary, living room feel. Razor keeps it simple and affordable with cut, color, wet-shaves and eyebrow waxing, plus deals for first- time clients and referrals. Cuts $20; color

$15 and up. (2340 S. Kinnickinnic Ave., 414-482-0633.)

Gee’s ClippeRs

Gaulien “Gee” Smith is a stylist to the stars. Starting with three barbers 15 years ago, he now has 28 and two Gee’s loca- tions. NBA players Kobe Bryant, Dwyane Wade, Kurt Thomas, Charlie Bell, Dan Gad- zuric and Jerry Stackhouse (he shaves his head) have all sat in his chair. Brandon Jen- nings hasn’t, but Gee is optimistic on that score. The Fond du Lac Avenue location rocks a sports theme, and Sen. Herb Kohl let Gee use the Bucks logo on the floor. It’s a must-see. Plus, they do great hair, includ- ing the popular Mohawk. “We’re bound to get anything in here,” Gee says of both clientele and styles. “We’re one of the only shops I know that has multiracial barbers.” Cuts $15-17, $20 includes shave.
