Enchantment is everywhere... from ancient Abbaye de Senanque (top) to a tasting at a local winery, a cathedral visit in Lyon, and two romantic nights in Paris!

Paris In a metropolis as famous and talked-about as Paris, it’s always fun to discover something you may not have known... a fairly common occurrence when exploring the “City of Lights” with your Tauck Director and local guides. Like the fact that the iconic Eiffel Tower – constructed for the Paris Exhibition of 1889 and a great source of French pride for over a century – was despised by many famed Parisians, such as author Guy de Maupassant, who claimed he often dined in the tower so he didn’t have to look at it! Your two-night stay in the heart of the city at The Westin Paris, overlooking the tower as well as the Tuileries Gardens, will be filled with just those kinds of tidbits and morsels as you navigate through the must-see sites and hidden corners of Paris with Tauck.

Lyon Mangez! It means “Eat!” – and is sort of a battle cry in Lyon, considered the French culinary capital. For a country that enjoys one of the world’s top reputations for fine wine and cuisine, that’s really saying

something. With France’s highest number of restaurants per capita, folks come here to eat... and they don’t leave disappointed. Relaxed and convivial, the city’s classic bouchons – traditional restaurants with roots in Lyon’s thriving silk industry of centuries ago – serve such Lyonnaise favorites as rosette de Lyon (sausage), quenelles (fish dumplings), duck pâté, coq au vin and marrons glacés (candied chestnuts). Your time in Lyon includes visits to medieval Vieux Lyon, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and 19th-century Notre-Dame de Fourvière; and a wine tasting in the famed Beaujolais wine-growing region... magnifique!

Vienne After you get past the initial confusion sometimes caused by the original Roman name of this French city on the Rhône – they called it “Vienna,” like today’s Austrian capital – you’ll find a treasure trove of historic sites. Vienne goes back even further than the Romans, who left ruins you’ll check out on a walking tour; one legend says the pyramid-like Plan de l’Aiguille may have served as Pontius Pilate’s tomb!

Avignon “Sur le pont d’Avignon... L’on y danse, l’on y danse... Sur le pont d’Avignon... L’on y danse tous en rond.” If that catchy little tune

pops into your head at the mention of Avignon, you’re not alone. And along with the 14th-century bridge made famous by that song, you’ll see another one just as well known – the Roman Pont du Gard – and enjoy a special dinner featuring great regional wines and cuisine.
