2.  DISCOVER AMSTERDAM / KEUKENHOF

Begin your day with an excursion to Keukenhof Gardens in Lisse, where millions of tulips, daffodils and hyacinths are in various stages of bloom at this time of the year. Back in Amsterdam, enjoy a luncheon cruise along the city’s tree-lined canals, then visit the Rijksmuseum, one of the world’s most beloved museums. Your expert guide will share fascinating insights about the world-famous art you will see here, including Rembrandt’s The Night Watch, as well as paintings by the Old Dutch Masters Jan Vermeer, Frans Hals, and Jan Steen. the Alkmaar region in the Schermer polder. There you will visit the 17th-century Schermer Museum Windmill for a look at how windmills created the polder, then it’s on to the family-owned Zeezicht cheese farm for an interactive cheese-making demonstration. Your riverboat continues on to Enkhuizen. The former center of herring fishing, this pretty town is laced with canals and historic buildings including the open-air Zuiderzee Museum, recreating life in a Zuiderzee (south sea) fishing village between the 1880s and the 1930s. 4.  AIRBORNE MUSEUM / DE HOGE VELUWE

On-board commentary by your Tauck Director enriches your cruise down the Lek and the Neder Rijn to Zutphen, where you’ll disembark for a choice of sightseeing in Arnhem or De Hoge Veluwe National Park. Arnhem made headlines in World War II when its strategic bridge over the Lower Rhine became the target of a massive airborne assault. Tour the battlegrounds and see the “John Frost Bridge” before visiting the Airborne Museum. Or, travel to nearby De Hoge Veluwe National Park. The largest nature reserve in the Netherlands, it is home to scenic forests, drifting sand dunes, grassy plains, deer and wild boar – and the Kröller-Müller Museum (subject to weekly closures). Inside you will find over 275 works by Vincent van Gogh, including the famous Café Terrace in Arles; outside, a sculpture garden hosts works by Rodin and other renowned artists.
