SCHOOL OF BUSINESS

Real Life – Real Understanding

Trinity is poised to play a dynamic and leading role in setting the future agenda in the business education arena, both within Ireland and on an international

scale. Real Life – Real Understanding: the Campaign for the School of

Business aims to build a new, state-of- the-art building on Trinity’s magnificent city-centre campus, providing the environment for new models of teaching and learning in a relevant and meaningful way to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world.

In conjunction with the Head of School

and key academics, the Business School Advisory Board is leading the Campaign. Events in Dublin, the UK and US are connecting the School with leading international Trinity alumni. With the help of major stakeholders, between 2010 and 2015 the School plans to raise significant funds to build the world class space that matches its stature in one of the finest universities in the world.

SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING

Towards an equitable and sustainable society

Entrepreneurship is set to become a key driver in building a new Ireland, creatively, socially and economically. Universities must play a leadership role in harnessing student potential, driving the entrepreneurship agenda and focussing efforts to help build a successful economy underpinned by a sustainable society. In January 2009, the School of

Business, in association with Social Entrepreneurs Ireland, launched the Initiative on Social Entrepreneurship: a unique and innovative programme with the primary purpose of creating an intellectual ‘home’ for research, education and dialogue on social entrepreneurship in Ireland. Dr Denise Crossan was appointed to lead the initiative which is designed to embed social entrepreneurship into the mainstream of business school teaching and research in Ireland.

The Social Entrepreneurship Initiative

is generously supported by the Iris O’Brien Foundation. We are actively seeking other partners to support this unique initiative in its ambition to develop a generation of high-calibre entrepreneurs and social entrepreneurs for Ireland’s future.

In 2009, the College welcomed back the Engineering Class of 1964 as they celebrated 45 years since their graduation with an extraordinary turnout from across the globe. In 2010, the School continues to reconnect with friends and alumni, engaging them in this exciting development.

Engineering innovation and creative design

There are major plans underway to establish Trinity as the European Hub of a global network of Engineering Innovation and Design. The Engineering Development Board is assisting the School to develop and implement its strategic plan that aims to make Trinity one of the top ranked universities for engineering study and research in Europe by the year 2020. At the centre of the 2020 plan is the

construction of a new engineering building to bring together the undergraduate and research activities, creating critical mass in the five key strategic research areas:

• Trinity Centre for Bioengineering • Environmental & Transport Engineering

• Energy Devices & Systems • Digital Media & Communications Engineering

• TrinityHaus

Being a Brendan McDonald scholar enabled me to participate in the Trinity MBA and as a result benefit from the wealth of world-class business knowledge and expertise available from the MBA faculty. Thanks to the opportunity provided by the scholarship, I am now in a role where I can bring my MBA learnings to the benefit of a company helping organisations to reduce their carbon footprint through better energy

management.” Aine Murray, Strategy, Communications & Marketing Manager, Dalkia
