Finding the new normal in a new political era 4 Buy-to-let news

5 Equity release news

As we crawl towards the second half of the year with the economy continuing to bubble away, the mortgage market will soon enter a new era as a vastly different political landscape is drawn up. The impressive series of leaders’ debates has forever cast away the two party political system that the UK had become accustomed to for so long.

Whatever the outcome of the General Election it is clear that life for mortgage intermediaries will remain challenging and far from normal. Tomorrow’s business environment will indeed be different but it will be no less rich in opportunities. And what, if anything, is normal these days? Finding out exactly what normal is and whether it even exists at all is the topic that we explore in our cover feature, starting on page 18. Ultimately, to succeed in this new environment, intermediaries must

focus on what has changed and remains basically the same for their clients. The result will be an environment that, while different from the past, will be no less rich in possibilities for those who are prepared. Elsewhere in this issue we take our regular look at developments in the specialist prime, buy-to-let, equity release and protection markets while our panel of experts in this month’s Bigger Issue on page 14 discuss whether, in a vastly changing world, lenders should impose a maximum age which they lend to. And don’t forget, you can log on to our new look website at www.mortgageintroducer.com and vote for who you think has the better argument. The new look site is jam-packed with new features and has been designed to maximise your online experience. You’ll fi nd rich, incisive and strategic content and blogs from industry experts such as Jonathan Cornell, Tony Ward and Frank Eve. We also have a special featured Tweeter section to give an extra take on the day’s events. Our new Google search will ensure you will always fi nd what you’re looking for while you can also keep track of which stories are being read the most. There’s also a great opportunity to take part in our quiz and win a new Apple I-Pad. We’ve got more exciting news planned throughout May so log on to
