Plant Management
Technology Systems, Wipro Technologies, Adastra Software, MTech, EMSystems, MyMobility, SkillWeb, VSc Solutions and Aparc Systems. However, for Invensys Operations Management, its validation is already paying off with the announcement that Chevron is to provide the Wonderware IntelaTrac mobile workforce and decision-support system. The mobile solution will support Chevron’s upstream operations with configurable software and ruggedised mobile hardware solutions that enable workers to better manage workflow, procedural and general management tasks which focus on plant, production and field operations, maintenance management, production, inventory and logistics tracking and compliance applications. Invensys will provide the IntelaTrac solution to assist
operators, field engineers, technicians and supervisors in creating inspection and regulatory procedures. It also will assign, schedule and execute rounds and report findings that are prioritised based on the level of severity of the issue. IntelaTrac provides the capabilities for an organisation to create and define procedures based on best practices, as well as regulatory compliance rules and regulations. Procedures are re-usable
across many operator and technician rounds to ensure that inspections are performed on a routine basis as mandated by overall corporate policies, as well as regulatory agencies. “Chevron wants a mobile platform capable of supporting many business work processes and an ‘out of the box’ solution,” said Eric Moorehead, Invensys Operations Management North America client care executive programme leader. “Our IntelaTrac solution has been used by Chevron in its downstream business process for several years. By extending the availability of IntelaTrac, Chevron anticipates being able to support many new business processes using a single mobile platform for operations, maintenance, reliability tracking, production data collection and safety inspections across the enterprise.” Chevron has been using Invensys solutions since the early 1990s for its downstream operations to standardise refinery process steps and deliver decision support to field workers. Invensys solutions currently deployed at Chevron include Triconex safety systems, Wonderware IntelaTrac, Wonderware InTouch human-machine interface, Wonderware System Platform, Wonderware Historian and Wonderware ActiveFactory, a trending, analysis and reporting application. n
Software for visibility and management of industrial Ethernet networks
B
elden is releasing Hirschmann Industrial Hivision v4.0 to meet the needs for maximum network visibility. This new software tool for industrial network management is suitable for configuring and supervising all Hirschmann managed products, as well as third-party devices.
Hirschmann Industrial Hivision v4.0 provides insight into the status of the end devices and network components while in operation. This enables users to rectify faults before system failures result in expensive downtime. This latest version of Industrial Hivision is claimed to guarantee a higher level of operational availability. Automatic topology detection now includes unmanaged switches, thereby providing an even more realistic depiction of network connectivity.
Building on many years of experience with Hivision network configuration products, Industrial Hivision v4.0 was expressly designed so users can configure multiple devices simultaneously. Using Multiconfig saves effort and reduces the chance of making mistakes. Multiconfig is also useful throughout a network’s lifetime, facilitating regular changing of device passwords and firmware upgrades, thereby helping to keep networks secure and reliable. Introducing the new software, Mark
Cooksley, product manager for network management, explains: “Compared to office

networks, industrial networks require more peremptory monitoring, because they are subject to higher levels of stress from environmental conditions. Network availability is a key factor for industrial processes. Here, Hirschmann Industrial Hivision is an essential tool, because it is specifically designed for effective industrial network supervision.”
Although Hirschmann Industrial Hivision v4.0 is optimised for Hirschmann products, third-party products can easily be integrated. Any SNMP-enabled device can be supervised to the same level of detail as a Hirschmann product. As a result, only a single management application is required to monitor the complete network infrastructure and connected end devices.
Hirschmann Industrial Hivision v4.0 can easily be integrated into Scada applications and offers an embedded SNMP/OPC server. The graphical user interface is available as an Activex control. The DTM for Field Device Tool frame applications completes the synthesis with other industrial management platforms.
Meanwhile, with the Eagle20, Hirschmann Automation and Control is introducing the fourth generation of its industrial networking firewall. Like other Hirschmann products, the Eagle20 is based on the proven VxWorks real-time operating system. The new industrial firewall meets all requirements for operating
as a security router, including Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) Firewall, Packet Filter Rules and a VPN Server.
Developed to serve as a ‘protective wall’ around an industrial network, the Eagle20 forms a clear security parting line at the interface between the office and the industrial world. The protection level is further enhanced by providing the possibility of setting up various different security zones within the network. In this, any violation of the security in one zone will not affect the other zones.
Apart from new installations, existing networks can also benefit from the comprehensive security functions of the firewall, since the Eagle20 can easily be integrated without the need for changing IP addresses. Its VPN server always provides secure access to the network, whether through the Lan, during a permanent network connection or for a limited time during maintenance.
In line with the requirements of high reliability for industrial networks, the Eagle20 works as a redundant pair in the network to ensure faultless operation. The firewall is configured by means of an intuitive web interface using a VPN Wizard, which eliminates the need for a complex Command Line Interface (CLI). n
