If there’s any justice in the world, as Lemar once sang, then Tokyo-based, Canadian ex-pat Rennie Foster’s new album on DJ Shield’s revered Rebirth imprint, ‘Blood Sugar’, out 19th April, ought to earn him a whole load of new fans. Steeped in melodic techno textures, subtle US garage touches and sublime dub echoes, it’s a truly assured work.

Containing a multiplicity of styles, from the eerie, River Styx tech house of ‘Devil’s Water’ — a huge dancefloor hit with the likes of James Zabiela, James Holden and Laurent Garnier — to the surging, bubbling bass- pumped ‘Work It Daddy!’, it’s a diverse offering indeed. Cult underground MC Moka Only pops in to funk up ‘Connect Like Four’, while ‘Roughshod’ combines old school

dynamics with futuristic production touches to electrifying effect. Best of all, ‘Vital Organ’ channels classic early ’90s house organs, with shredded female house vox, and a nostalgic, bittersweet feeling that will keep revolving in your mind long after the final drum kick.
