Irving Shipbuilding delivers first-in-series
tug to Danish operator
East Isle Shipyard, a division of Canadian Irving Shipbuilding Inc, has
successfully delivered the first of four tugs to Nordane Shipping of Svendborg
in Denmark. Here we look at the vessel’s specifications and capabilities.

Edward Island, Canada, and is
the specialist tug building yard
of Irving Shipbuilding Inc, counting the
construction of reverse tractor tugs as its
major success.
The new ice-class tug named Stevns
IceQueen underwent sea trials in late 2009
and was accepted by the owner as meeting
all of the specification requirements.
After delivery the azimuth stern drive
tug transited the Atlantic Ocean to
Denmark to begin operations for her
owner. Upon arrival at her home port in
Esbjerg, Stevns IceQueen was dispatched
almost immediately to assist a Danish
vessel in distress due to heavy weather
conditions that had lost steering power
and evacuated the majority of its crew.
