YOUNG, FREE AND SINGLE
Whatever your circumstances, making a Will is a smart move:
Wendy Bray is Fundraising Manager at St Ann’s Hospice. She explains why she
decided to organise her own Will during last year’s Will Week:
“Now I am a homeowner I wanted to make sure that, if anything happened to me,
the house or its proceeds would go to my nephews and niece. I’m single so
I realised that this may not happen automatically - in fact being single can make
things more complicated for a family to sort as there is no automatic next of kin.
“Having lost both my parents in the last few years, knowing that their finances and
affairs were in order was a great comfort to my brother and I when they passed
away and made things just that little bit easier for us. This really brought home to
me how important it is to be organised about these things.
“I was amazed how easy it was to make a Will - I’d always seen it as a really grown
up and difficult thing to do! And I feel so much better for having sorted it out.
It was also surprising how much I actually had to leave. I always thought
I didn’t really need to make a Will as I had nothing to leave to anyone but, once
you look at your house, possessions, car and - most importantly in my case cat,
you realise you do actually need to leave clear details as to where they should go!
I’m just glad I’ve now got it sorted and would urge anyone without a Will to take
advantage of Will Week and support St Ann’s Hospice at the same time.”
