Shoot me if you can
The diver’s descent to the sea floor may be enough to stop the fish.
That is the second approach. As soon as the fish stops and turns to
take a look at the spearo, he will reduce the distance between them
by small movements of the free hand, taking the shot as soon as
he feels that the fish is in shooting range. This technique demands
from the diver a clear mind, calmness and adaptation so as not to
aggravate the already scared but also curious fish. The last approach
is found in static ambush. It’s not rare for this technique to bring large
white groupers unexpectedly close to the hunter’s shaft. This may
happen for three reasons. The first is simple curiosity; the second
has to do with territorial issues while the third is just a matter of
luck, when by coincidence the spearo has placed his body in front or
close to a fishes den. Contrary to fishing red snappers, movements
of the gun are allowed while movement toward the fish is almost
always necessary. It’s only natural for the guns to change in power
and length. Long guns with 3 or even 4 bands and thick shafts are
preferred. Except for the first manner of approach mentioned above,
in all other cases, exaggerations must be avoided especially in the
size of the gun. Since this fish is characterized by restlessness and
speed, the speargun must be agile, able to make the shaft travel with
great velocity.
