The BWA Executive Committee and General Council took some far-reaching decisions and
actions as part of the BWA Annual Gathering in the Dutch town of Ede in late July
10 CELEBRATING 400 YEARS
Baptist leaders from around the world celebrated 400 years of Baptist life and witness during the Annual Gathering in the
Netherlands where the first Baptist church was founded in 1609 by English exiles. The event was a time of exploration
into key areas of Baptist history, scholarship, doctrine and practice. Among the themes were liberation, peacemaking, and
transforming society.
23 DUTCH BAPTISTS REVITALIZED
The Union of Baptist Churches in the Netherlands launched a series of new initiatives to strengthen
relationships among its churches, the worldwide body of Baptists, and with other denominations.
24 BAPTIST YOUTH
Reports on a “Stomping Good Time” in the Caribbean, and plans for the 16th Baptist
Youth World Conference to be held in Singapore in July 2013.
26 LIVING WATER CONFERENCES
Tony Cupit reports on the September 6-9 Living Water conference in Panama City, Panama.
Designed for and by Baptists of Central America, 200 delegates embraced the themes of
evangelism and servant leadership, and heard reports from throughout the region.
27 “BAPTISTS’ BIBLE” LAUNCHED DURING ANNUAL GATHERING
Copies of The Acts of the Apostles: Four Centuries of Baptist Interpretation, Baylor University
Press’ latest release, were made available to attendees at the Annual Gathering.
28 HAWAI‘I PREPARES TO HOST THOUSANDS OF BAPTISTS IN 2010
Planning continues for the 20th Baptist World Congress to be held July 28 to August 1, 2010 in Honolulu, Hawai‘i.
