This Type 2 rolled off
the production line at
Wolksburg Germany 55
years ago and was
dispatched to its fi rst
owner, a clothing
company who used it
to carry material for 13
years. During this time it
did an annual average
of 2,103 miles, but from
1966 onwards it sat in
a warehouse until 2006,
when it was sold to a
VW enthusiast. At this
stage it had only covered
44,000 km (27,341 miles).
Tom Gotta, of
Wheelerdealer in
Frankfurt, was asked
by one of his customers
if he knew of anyone
who wanted a Barndoor.
Of course, Tom was
interested straight away
and asked for more
information.
