Military Family
$500 first-place winner (left)
This father is proud to return
home to his three children after
being deployed on the USS Kitty
Hawk (CV-63) — and his children
are just as excited as he is. The
judges chose this photo because
of its fun nature and the obvious
love these children have for their
father. Submitted by Lt. Cmdr.
John E. Estes, USN-Ret.
$100 second-place winner (right)
This photo was taken four days after Paris was liberated. The Levine
siblings bumped into one another while walking down the Champs-
Elysées. After taking the photo, they toasted to their reunion and their
mutual survival. The judges chose this photo because of the story be-
hind it. Submitted by Rose Levine Blickstein.
$50 third-place winner (left)
This photo conveys the elation
of a family reunited with their fa-
ther after he was released from
North Vietnam, having been a
POW. The judges chose this
photo because of the joy shown
in all the family members’ faces
and the relief they must have felt
having their prayers answered.
