Add a bevy of beautiful Bull Terriers and you have the makings of
the Bull Terrier lover’s premier event of the year, The Silverwood
competition. The Bull Terrier Club of Tampa Bay was the “host
club” in 2008 and they did a bang up job putting on the
experience that all of us look forward to with great anticipation
every year.
Silverwood was held at the Wyndham Orlando Resort in Orlando,
Florida. The hotel was spacious and accommodating. The
buildings are only two stories high and almost everyone had a
ground floor room. That made easy access for late night dog walking and packing and unpacking!
The show site was in the main building with the exception of the Monday show which was held in an outside
area complete with ceiling fans! The rings were large and the grooming room was right next door for
Silverwood and the Sunday Specialty.
Bull Terrier Club of Tampa Bay, under the direction of show chair Penny Midulla and her super club
members, made each event a pleasure. The banquet was well attended and the food was excellent. The
Friday night “cocktail party” served wonderful appetizers and there was dancing to a fabulous “one man
band” who favored Jimmy Buffet (very apropos to the tropical atmosphere). Lifetime Member Cecil Mann
and his partner Claire were seen on the dance floor “cutting the rug” in style. The social aspect of
Silverwood never ceases to amaze and we are lucky to have visitors from every part of the globe admiring
our dogs and adding to the international aspect of the show.
Never forgetting the health of our dogs, Susan Murphy and her team of volunteers held a very successful
heart check clinic.
A very profitable silent auction to benefit Bull Terrier Rescue was managed by Skip and Lisa Greaney and a
group of dedicated volunteers. They raised a substantial amount of money for a worthy cause.
A number of shows take place during the Silverwood weekend including an Obedience Trial, Sweepstakes,
Futurity, the Silverwood Trophy Show and the Bull Terrier Club of America National Specialty.
Five Bull Terriers and their handlers participated in the Rally Obedience Trial judged by Mr. Jerry Lermiero.
Qualifiers in Rally Advanced A were Pistol Packin’ Lola handled by Annie Glaser, Victoria’s Queen
Charlotte handled by Gaylynn Speas. Qualifying in both Rally Advanced B and Rally Excellent B was
Stellar Tom Sawyer handled by Linda Maddox.
The Puppy and Veteran Sweepstakes were judged by Steve Schmidt. The Best Puppy in Sweepstakes
was the 11 month old white bitch ACTION PURE CLASS (CH Bestuvall Razor Redicut - CH Dajan Classy
Action) bred by Franne Berez MD and owned by Stephen & Channa Beth Butcher & Franne Berez MD.
