We exhibit our dogs differently in the UK e.g. we stand where we like in the ring – no number order over here!
We usually pick out our winners at the end of each class, which I suppose keeps the exhibitors on their toes for the
whole time! Also we do not stack our dogs. They are all exhibited free standing and this tends to be the practice in
Europe. From what I have seen in Europe and the USA – dogs stand in number order and interestingly that is the case in
Northern Ireland too.
In the UK numbers are assigned alphabetically which means that at benched shows, which are the norm at
Championship level, you are benched with people you get to know quite well.
There are many other differences in the categories of class, the way in which judges are appointed and so on but at
least this gives a little more information about the differences in the structures of shows in Europe and the USA.
Aase says that she has to ‘refocus’ his eyes and I know exactly what that means! There are subtle differences in the
Dalmatians in each geographical area but the best dogs from most countries could compete anywhere and win!
