GrEYWALLS
On the coast of East Lothian, overlooking Muirfield Golf Course and the Firth of Forth, lies Greywalls, a warm, honey stone coloured
building designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens in 1901.
Originally built as a private house, Greywalls was one of the first country house hotels in Britain. It is now available to let as a private
house on an exclusive use basis, rather than a conventional hotel - but it retains all the luxuries of a top class hotel with the relaxing
atmosphere of a private house. The extensive walled gardens which provide herbs and salads for the house, are attributed to the
world renowned designer, Gertrude Jekyll.
Owned by the Weaver family since 1924, Greywalls has enjoyed a reputation for the excellence of its food and service for more
than half a century. The style and comfort of this special building is best exemplified by the quiet luxury of the panelled library,
a large peaceful book lined room complete with a warming log fire. The style is matched in the 23 bedrooms,
many of which enjoy extensive views of Muirfield and the Firth of Forth. Each room is individually decorated
and furnished with antiques and service throughout is discreet, friendly and professional.
Greywalls and golf are synonymous. Within a 20 minute drive there are a dozen spectacular golf courses. The house overlooks the
9th green and the 10th tee at Muirfield, one of the most famous golf courses in the world.
