I do have to say that the Dalmatian looks out of place in the Companion group. The next biggest dog in
the group is the miniature poodle and it goes down from there ending with the Chihuahua. There were
22 breeds represented in the Companion Group this weekend.
Total Dog was truly an all-rounders dream come true. In
order to make the finals you must qualify in a performance
event AND win either Best Male or Female, or win your
champion or grandchampion class, or Best of Breed on Sat-
urday. There is also a point system but I haven’t figured that
out yet. There were over 20 BREEDS represented in the finals
ring (not 20 Border Collies). UKC President Wayne Cave-
naugh judged the finals and the Best in Show Total Dog was a
Samoyed. Yes, a Samoyed. He gave a wonderful speech sum-
marizing UKC’s premise of Total Dog; Structure, Function,
Temperament. UKC is about dogs, family, friends and fun.
The NUA’s were well represented and won the Champion Class and Best of Breed each day. Our Fiona
even went on to win the Companion Group. There were celebrations all around.
I hope that next year I will be in that Total Dog ring and that
I will not be alone.
