professional development for sometime, and who have long
been subject to checks and inspections by various bodies. To
assist members in meeting their CPD and future revalidation
requirements, the DDU has put on several educational events
over the last year, aimed at delivering to members their core
CPD subjects in learning packages. We will continue doing this
and will be expanding the range of courses on offer.
As to the future, it is perhaps fitting that the GDC itself is
about to change. In line with other healthcare regulators, all
members of the Council, professional and lay, will soon be
appointed and an entirely new Council should be in place by
the Autumn of 2009. The role of President is replaced by a
Chairman, and this may be a dental professional or a lay
person. We do not know what effect all this will have on
members but are certain that the new shape of the GDC will
herald yet further changes. For our part, we will continue our
dialogue with the GDC as it develops and ensure we represent
members’ dento-legal interests in discussions and in
consultations that will affect the shape of future dental
practice.
