T he key to a successful
birthday party at your child’s pre- school is all in the planning. Make sure to let your child’s teacher know in advance when you are planning to have the celebration in the classroom. Advance notice allows the teacher to plan her ac- tivities around the party. Keeping it simple will make your
life a lot easier. For example, bring cupcakes instead of a birthday cake. The cupcakes are easy to serve and they are a perfect size for little hands. Whereas, a birthday cake usually involves a cutting knife, serving utensil, forks and paper plates. Also, if you plan on bringing juice for the party, it is important to know that the

state of Arizona mandates any juice brought into a preschool be 100 percent fruit juice. Here are some helpful questions to ask your child’s teacher: • What is a good time to
have all the goodies here? Morning snack time is usually the best time for a party at a preschool as some of the children in the class may only attend school in the morning. • How many children are
in the class? A good rule of thumb would be to bring at least three to four extra cupcakes just in case there are any new students to the classroom. It is always better to have a few too many than to not have enough. That rule also applies for any candy bags or favors you plan to bring.
• Are there any children with food allergies in the class? Food allergies seem to be more prevalent with today’s children. Nuts, milk and chocolate are common allergies to be aware of. • What activities or games
can be played in the classroom? Preschool teachers are a great resource in helping you plan some simple age-appropriate games for the party. Children love celebrating their
birthday and look forward to it each year. This is a memory your child will have for a lifetime. Keeping it simple and stress-free is not only best for the parents, but for the child also. Happy Birthday and remember to have fun!
