Spring Community Service Day
June 12 marked the Chamber’s second annual Spring Community Service Day, with over 40 volunteers. Participants met at Gibbons Park, bordering Alewife Brook Parkway and Massachusetts Avenue, and broke into teams of four, spreading out to rake, shovel and clean up the land at the gateway from Arlington to Cambridge.
Led by Ellen Coppinger, the Cambridge Public Works Department supported the efforts of the volunteers by choosing the location, delivering all of the necessary tools to accomplish the work and explaining the needs of the property to all of the volunteers. After a few short hours, the team removed more than 30 bags filled with leaves, wrappers, bottles and more. This parcel of land was in need of some TLC and the impact the volunteers made was staggering.
Volunteers included teams from Cambridge Savings Bank, Cambridge Trust Company, Danversbank, Le Meridien Cambridge, Big Foot Moving & Storage and individual representatives from many more Chamber member businesses. New friendships were formed and business units strengthened. Everyone is looking forward to the upcoming Fall Community Service Day. More details about this event will soon be available. Start putting your team together now!
