The third Building Controls Industry Awards held in association with the BCIA and BSEE were a huge
success with people from all areas of the industry gathering together to celebrate the
accomplishments of the last 12 months.

The winners
As ever it was a difficult choice, but between the judging panel and members of the industry who took
part in our internet voting, the following winners were chosen.
Student of the Year

Fred Ranson, Market Information Consultancy
This award was open to individuals responsible for implementing a successful marketing campaign
which has had a positive and demonstrable effect on their company or the industry as a whole.
The winner, Fred Ranson of Market Information Consultancy, whose illustrious career in the
building controls industry stretches back to the early 1980s, has covered all aspects of building
controls from energy audits to building controls training. Fred is one of those invaluable ‘all-rounders’,
able to seamlessly adapt himself to the task in hand, whether training the controls engineers of the
Ben Butcher, Building Automation Solutions future or producing market information and strategies.
The Student of the Year award went to a very deserving Ben Butcher of Building Automation Solutions Independent Systems Installer of the Year

The winner of the Independent Systems Installer of the Year award was BG Controls for their provision
of a one-stop shop of controls, panel manufacture, access control, electrical installation and
maintenance services.
Simon Camm, Andromeda
One of the reasons they stood out from the rest is their commitment to the industry with a customer
The winner of the Engineer of the Year award was Simon Camm of Andromeda. Simon came out at the support bureau operating 15 hours a day, 364 days a year supporting eight different BMS product
top of his category for a number of reasons, including his technical expertise, customer-orientated ranges. As an independent installer, BG has grown by 250% in the last four years with staff numbers
attitude and determination to deliver successful solutions. His continued development, from workshop growing by 24% annually.
