Best of Britain & Ireland
Show Guide – Welcome
The Best of Britain & Ireland is exactly that – the leading annual business-to-
business and now consumer showcase event for domestic tourism. Here,
VisitBritain is proud to help bring together hundreds of exhibitors and tourism
professionals from all the regions and nations of Britain and Ireland. We wel-
come the best of the industry to meet thousands of domestic and overseas
tour operators, group travel organisers, coach operators and travel agents. We
look forward to meeting Britons who are thinking of taking a holiday at home
this year and want to be inspired.
For 2009, Best of Britain & Ireland is the culmination of the third annual British Tourism Week and
marks its place as the must-attend event of the tourism calendar. Together over its first two days, business-
to-business meetings, seminars and exhibitors will help profile the rich diversity of this destination and
benefit from the estimated £30 million worth of business generated here. The show will help tourism
businesses convert Britons’ ‘interest’ into ‘action’ while the route to overseas customers is enhanced by
VisitBritain’s Hosted Buyer programme, which welcomes more than 230 travel and tourism buyers from
over 30 countries around the world. The programme provides new opportunities for business to meet and
work directly with representatives looking to sell Britain to their clients.
Public visitors on Saturday and Sunday will find this country’s diversity is expressed in the rich variety of
accommodation for all budgets in every destination, in our natural and built heritage, our beautiful
landscapes and coastlines, our world-class cities and unique culture, and our cathedrals of sport. It is
reflected in the quiet revolution that has taken place in the quality of Britain and Ireland’s food and
drink, and in the products, services and experiences that adults and children – whatever their age – can
enjoy here.
Our visitors bring £114 billion to the UK’s economy annually and 2008 has been another successful year.
But challenges remain. We must continue to make domestic holidays more attractive and easier to
book, while taking advantage of beneficial exchange rates to market Britain’s new affordability. Business
events such as the Best of Britain & Ireland give us the opportunity to address the challenges and seize
the opportunities to drive future tourism success.
Wishing you a successful and enjoyable Best of Britain & Ireland.
