Since the launch of the steel hull at the
Van der Graaf Yard on 15 March 2008, work has been progressing steadily. Te Yanmar engine and generators have been fitted and the engine has been aligned. Te Veth bowthruster is in place and hooked up. Hundreds of metres of pipes and tubes have been installed under the main floor. Te deep wine glass shape hull gives her bilge standing headroom for more than 30m length. All bulkheads and separation walls are in place and miles of cable (literally) have been installed. Atlantic is the first large yacht to take
full advantage of the new fingerjointing technology for the teak decking from Royal Boogaerdt Timber near Rotterdam. Tis
technology provides for a beautiful and uncluttered teak deck, where all boards are invisibly joined to lengths of 13.20m. The deck hardware has been recreated using original plans and photographs by Absolute Projects in Portugal. Meanwhile the Harken company will manufacture 36 traditional bronze custom winches. Below decks in the forepeak the crew quarters and the modern galley, pantry and laundry are close to being finalised Te first of the three masts is completed.
Te immense spars will stand almost 50m tall. Both the lower and the top masts will be made of alloy and the booms and gaffs will be built in Alaska Sitka spruce. Once fitted out, the schooner will be rigged and
