No such thing as
bad publicity?
The finance industry
is not the best
place to be at
the moment,
but the situation isn't
helped by the need of
certain part of the media to
talk the situation down even
further. Adam Tyler, chief
executive of the NACFB,
looks at the possible damage
being caused - and some
of the positive work being
done
I
was watching the news last night and dur-
ing the regular 'end of the world is nigh'
slot (also known as the economic news), I
was struck by a very familiar street being
used to illustrate the 'Struggling Retailers
Threatened with Closure' story.
Devon, being fairly remote from the movers
and shakers in London, very seldom has any-
thing considered newsworthy by the powers that
be, so it's not often you see a local street on the
national news. But there it was, large as life:
Exeter high street held up as a largely boarded-
up example of the impact of the recession.
Which got me thinking. If the BBC had to travel
as far afield as Exeter to find their 'ideal' boarded
up town, then there can't be that many of them.
