Miss Flavour Winners shine bright

female designers who continue to
set the tr
end for 2009 and beyond
T
he question on everyone’s lips at this
time of year is, ‘What can I do to
re-invent myself?’ A new year means
that you can treat yourself to a new style.
The main characteristics I like in a designer
are their uniqueness, adventurousness and
choice of vibrant colours. Whether you like the
retro, Barbie or tomboy look, every one uses
clothes as part of their individuality.

Two up-and-coming designers of 2009 that
are extremely innovative and distinctive are
Georgette Williams and Danielle A Scott-
Haughton. Using their designs along with
the Miss Flavour winners as models was
the perfect combination for the Miss flavour
trendsetter shoot. The shoot’s main concept
of the day was ‘know yourself for 2009’.
Georgette Williams is CEO of Georgie W.
Couture – whose main inspiration behind her
designs is to ‘be different, be individual and
be unique’. Georgie moved to the UK from
Pennsylvania, America in 2002. Soon after,
she started to work for Kaiz Creative Agency
and Boutique. This is where her real passion
for designing was discovered. Constantly
designing and customizing outfits for different
customers, demand for her work became very
high and the Georgie W. couture fashion label
was born. Her collections have captivated
audiences with their innovative use of creative
patterns and vibrant colours. Her drive for
fashion has enabled her to have a wide range
of both women and men’s clothing lines and
her Summer 2009 collection is now available.
The dynamic shapes and bold colours of
yellow, red and green were inspired by the
Seventies. Georgie is defiantly a trendsetter
for 2009. www.georgiewcouture.com
Our second trendsetter, Danielle A Scott-
Haughton CEO of Cut & Swallow designs
started out in 2007. Her designs were inspired
by Danielle’s need to be sassy and individual,
but on a low budget. As a student at 17,
Danielle developed a taste for high fash-
ion but didn’t have the funds to acquire it.
Once she received a sewing machine for her
birthday, Danielle started buying different
types of bargain materials. Thinking outside
the box, Danielle created dynamic and bold
designs to wear on a night out and this is
when she naturally became the trendsetter
among her circle of friend. Her first job was to
make sexy dresses for Jeeday Jawz’s music
video. Soon after, The Jump Off crew asked
her to showcase a collection at their show.
Danielle’s popularity grew quickly. The Hook
Up for MySpace also asked her to showcase
her first actual collection, which was called
Wonder London Superwoman. This became
her first pride and joy. Cut and Swallow’s 2009
collection has been inspired by Danielle’s
dreams and she says that you should ‘expect
the unexpected’ from her designs.
So when thinking of your new look for 2009,
ask yourself – are you a trendsetter or a trend
follower? Know yourself and you’ll find out!
