BOMBAR’S SUSPENSION

CENTER Traction, Stability,

pictures of bikes mid-corner show the front tire facing in the direction of the turn, and not away. The only exception to this is in the short moments when the rider puts additional countersteering forces into the bars when additional lean angle is needed. This kind of simulator can have the effect

of teaching bad muscle memory to new rid- ers before they even get on a real bike for the first time. The evidence of this is every time an experienced rider got on the simu- lator, he or she crashed it multiple times. Although you can learn how to “play the game,” as I eventually did, a real bike would crash by following the technique that is suc- cessful on that particular simulator. All of this begs the question which is, “Who are we helping with these things?” The military eventually discovered the same thing and retired most of them from service. Sadly millions of our tax dollars that could have been used on actual training were wasted on this project. The good news is at least we now know one more way how not to make a simulator. In the meantime, lots of good actual

training is available from multiple sources all around the world. It’s never a bad time to improve your skills.
