ALMA MATTERS CLASS NOTES 1970s


Rodney Chang, PhD (DDS ’72) recently welcomed the 2 millionth visitor to his virtual art museum, LastPlace.com. The website was established in 1997.


Marlene Ember-Bartolomei (BA ’73) is a family nurse practitioner in the Albuquerque, New Mexico area and is adjunct professor at the University of New Mexico Graduate School of Nursing.


William Cupach (BA ’78) received the Gerald R. Miller Outstanding Book Award from the Interpersonal Communication Division of the Na- tional Communication Association (NCA). He was also granted a fellow- ship from the International Associa- tion for Relationship Research (IARR) in recognition of his sustained and eminent contributions to the science of relationships.


Jody L. Nye (BA ’79) has published three new books. The first two, Wish- ing on a Star and A Circle of Celebra- tions, were published in November. Her most recent book, Rhythm of the Imperium, was published in Decem- ber from Baen Books.


1980s


Marianne Kramer (BSED ’82) was awarded a Doctorate of Behavioral Health (DBH) degree at Arizona State University in December 2015.


Barbara Arnold (MBA ’84) was awarded the Paul M. Lund Public Service Award from the Public Rela- tions Society of America (PRSA) in November. The prestigious award is given to a PRSA member whose par- ticipation as a volunteer in important public activities has benefitted the common good.


Joe Paprocki (MPS ’85) authored his latest book, A Church on the Move: 52 Ways to Get Mission and Mercy in Motion, published by Loyola Press.


Mark E. Rust (JD ’89) was named to the Illinois Super Lawyers and Rising Stars 2016 for his work in health care law. He concentrates his practice in transactional, regulatory, and medi- cal-legal issues affecting health care entities and provider organizations.


1990s


Monica A. Sansalone (BA ’92) has been appointed to the Lawyer’s Fund for Client Protection Board of Commissioners by the Supreme Court of Ohio.


The Hon. Liam C. Brennan (JD ’93) was appointed to a circuit judgeship by the Illinois Supreme Court. His appointment runs through Decem- ber 5, 2016.


Jeffrey Antonelli (BA ’96) was in- terviewed by Bloomberg Business in December on the subject of drones and insurance.


Mona Esam Dajani (JD ’96) was elected to the board of directors for the American Counsel on Renew- able Energy (ACORE). She focuses her global practice on tax equity, project finance, corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, portfolio acquisitions, and construction and/ or restructuring for government and private clients involving energy and clean technology companies.


Neil Boyer (BA ’97) has been hired by Intralinks as a senior sales engi- neer. His previous position was as a solutions engineer at Telogis.


Scott Larson (BA ’97) released his graphic novel, Visitations, in March. He also gave a talk about the project and his art career at The American Academy of Art on February 25.


Benjamin McCabe (MED ’98) was hired at Athlete Network as the vice president of marketing. Based in Lenexa, Kansas, Athlete Network works to keep athletes competing in every aspect of their lives by uniting them in one network.

Stanley F. Orszula (JD ’98) joined Barack, Ferrazzano, Kirschbaum & Nagelberg LLP as a partner in the firm’s financial institutions group, providing strategic counsel to banks on compliance and regulatory issues, general banking corporate matters, distressed loans and assets, failed bank receiverships, and note sales.


Kathleen J. Durkin (BS ’99) joined the Cohen Veterans Center at New York University as project manager in PTSD & TBI research. After gradu- ating from Loyola, she earned her MS in neuroscience from George- town and worked at Princeton's Center for Brain, Mind, and Behavior and Columbia Psychiatry.


2000s


Dan Han (BS ’00) is currently the chief of neuropsychology service's clinical section and associate profes- sor of neurology, neurosurgery, and physical medicine and rehabilita- tion at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. His recent work in translational neuroscience in clinical settings has been featured in National Geographic.


Henrika McCoy (MJ ’00) was awarded a $1.5 million grant from the National Institute of Justice for a three-year project titled “Under- standing the Violent Victimization Experiences of Young Men of Color.”


Thom Wilder (MJ ’00) published his second book, The Ghosts of Wheaton: How the Red Grange Tigers Conquered Illinois High School Football, in 2015. His third book, One More Trip: Jon Wayne's Painful Odyssey Through Heroin Addiction and Back is sched- uled for release in December 2016.


Jennifer L. Steinmetz (JD ’01, LLM ’02) was elected to partnership at Tucker Ellis LLP. She practices in the areas of medical and pharmaceutical liability, devoting the majority of her professional time to the defense of drug and device manufacturers.


Brett Henne (JD ’02) has been named partner at Swanson, Martin & Bell, LLP, a law firm in Chicago.


Bethany Marie Harding (BA ’03) received her PhD from Marquette University. Her dissertation is titled “Breaking up and Moving Westward: The Search for Identity in Post-Colo- nial America 1787-1828.”


Olivia Tyrrell (JD ’04) was named to the Crain's Chicago Business “40 Under 40” list. She is a top pharma- ceuticals deal-maker at the law firm Baker & McKenzie.


Jesus Suarez (BBA ’05) has been named a partner at Miami-based Genovese Joblove & Battista, P.A. Suarez joined the law firm in 2008 as an associate.


Ryan L. Eddings (JD ’06) has been elevated to shareholder status at Littler. He represents private- sector employers against claims involving unfair competition, breach of contract, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the National Labor Rela- tions Act, and the Americans with Disabilities Act.


Matthew Petrillo (JD ’06) was promoted to partner at Reed Smith LLP. He is a member of the firm's global Energy & Natural Resources Industry Group, where he works with clients on all facets of commer- cial lending, as well as acquisition, inventory, receivables, and other types of trade finance.


Fatih Takmakli (BA ’06) has published his new book Su Üstünde - Geçmi¿ten Günümüze Dü¿ten Gerçe¿e Kruvaziyer Gemileri by Denizcilik Yayinevi in Turkey, and will be selling it internationally.


Sarah Beattie (BS ’07, BSN ’09) and Craig Maier (BBA ’07) were married at Madonna della Strada Chapel on September 19, 2015. Sarah and Craig met briefly while both were attend- ing Loyola and began dating a year after they graduated.
