Moving In A Positive Direction Serving co-op members is a way of life

y the time you read this column, June 1 will have past and I will have already taken over as general manager for Choctaw Electric Cooperative (CEC). The monthly CEC newsletter Inside Your Co-op is the perfect opportunity for me to introduce myself.

I began my career with rural electric cooperatives as an apprentice lineman. After spending time on the job and cracking the books,

BY JON K. MILES cHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

I moved on to become a journeyman lineman. My first day on the job at a rural electric cooperative happened to occur during the middle of an ice storm. This experience provided the foundation for a career that has allowed me to bring lights to rural areas and provide exceptional service to co-op members.

Since those early years, I moved on to hold several key staff and management positions with rural electric cooperatives. This combined experience allowed me to build a solid base of knowledge of the electric utility industry and the confidence necessary to accomplish the goals set out by the board of directors.

As I write this, my wife and I are in the process of selling our home and packing our belongings. We are looking forward to relocating and settling into southeast Oklahoma. It is a beautiful area and has

a lot to offer. Mary and I are proud parents of two grown children and two grandchildren.

Needless to say, I am eager to meet the members of Choctaw Electric and get to work on the issues at hand. I am honored to have been chosen to your electric co-op, and I’m confident that we will move forward in a positive direction based on establishing positive relationships and working to build trust in the cooperative’s mission. This is what the CEC members expect; more importantly, it’s what they deserve.

I have met with your board of directors and I believe you have excellent members representing your needs and concerns. I look forward to working with them, and will rely on their input and guidance.

I would be remiss if I did not express thanks to CEC’s Interim Manager Joe Harris, who provided leadership for CEC for the past several months. Joe is a seasoned veteran. He knows the electric utility business and effectively managed an electric cooperative in Blackwell, Oklahoma for many years. Thank you, Joe, for sharing your skills and knowledge with CEC.

No doubt about it, I look forward to getting better acquainted with CEC employees and members, and working alongside you as we work hard to keep the lights on in southeast Oklahoma.
