Photonics leaders honoured

T

he CEO of Art Photonics has been given EPIC’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Viacheslav (Slava) Artyushenko was picked

for his significant contribution to the optical fibre industry. His company has become a major player in the global market for special optical fibres’ products and spectroscopy fibre probes. EPIC’s annual CEO Award went to

Axel Kupisiewicz, the founder of LASEA. The award recognises leadership and contributions to the photonics industry. Born in 1954, Artyushenko graduated

from Moscow Physical-Technical Institute and got his PhD in physics of solid state in 1981. In 1998, he founded Art Photonics in Berlin, Germany, to use his Polycrystalline IR-fibre technology to develop fibre probes for spectroscopy, medical diagnosis, and control of industrial processes, as well as high-power laser cables for medical, industrial and scientific lasers. The company has become one of the worldwide leading manufacturers of fibre cables, bundles, and spectroscopy probes for industrial, medical, and scientific applications, offering a very broad spectral range from 0.3 to 16µm. In December of last year, Art Photonics was acquired by the Nynomic Group. Artyushenko holds numerous papers

and patents for fibre optic technologies and applications in a broad spectral range from UV to mid IR. “I am honoured to receive this recognition,” he said. “For more than 25 years, Art Photonics has been

setting new standards in the development of special fibre for optical measurement technology. The next step for us was to be acquired by a larger group like Nynomic, and this award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team.” Carlos Lee, Director General of EPIC, said: “Slava stands out by his kindness and generosity and is one of the most passionate people I know. He continuously extends his support to networks and he is very smart in identifying new projects and collaboration opportunities.” LASEA’s Axel Kupisiewicz holds a

master’s degree in applied sciences from ULiège, Belgium, and a master’s degree in economics and management from HEC, Belgium. After a brief period in the space sector, he founded LASEA in 1999, at the age of just 25. Pioneering femtosecond lasers since 2003, LASEA specialises in manufacturing micro-machining machines that enable precision cutting, marking, engraving, and drilling. Its main sectors include medical, watchmaking

and electronics, with clients worldwide, including two GAFAMs. Within just two decades, LASEA expanded globally, establishing subsidiaries in France, the US, and Switzerland. With an annual growth rate of 30% for 12 years, it boasts more than 120 patents, employs 190 people, has 3,000 machines installed across five continents, and enjoys a consolidated income exceeding 41 million euros. “I am very honoured to receive the EPIC CEO Award,” said Kupisiewicz. “This award is a recognition of the hard work and dedication of the team at LASEA. It also affirms that choosing femtosecond laser technology for micromachining was a wise decision! Additionally, it underscores the importance of pushing technological boundaries away, alongside our strong market strategy.” Lee added: “Axel exemplifies the

award’s values through his persistence, technological leadership and business acumen… all to ensure the success of his company and a contribution to the competitiveness of European photonics.” EO
