PILightning The PI Group has introduced PILightning, a new first light search method with integrated AI functionality. The company says it eliminates the need for time-consuming searches or manual intervention, driving down costs for test and assembly in all industrial photonics alignment applications, from wafer probing to final packaging. PILightning dramatically reduces the time required to capture first light in single- and double-sided couplings and in loopback (omega) waveguide configurations. Tests have shown improvements of one order of magnitude and more in single-sided alignment applications. Even higher gains are achieved in double-sided first light detection applications. The larger the search area and the more complex the alignment, the more significant the gain. The novel search-and-alignment technique works in combination with highly dynamic mechanics, such as piezo scanners or direct-drive air bearing


stages, enabling significant production-economics gains over previous first light search approaches. The PILightning algorithm is immediately available for PI’s ultra-clean air-bearing alignment solutions, such as the F-143, piezo flexure scanners, and fast steering mirror mechanisms, and leverages ACS controls. www.pi-usa.us


Hyperspectral Living Optics Camera Living Optics has launched a hyperspectral camera engineered to more easily integrate the capabilities of spectral imaging into computer vision. The Living Optics Camera offers a portable form


factor in addition to the compute power and tools required to capture and analyse spatial-spectral information. The company says it can be used for applications including agriculture; remote sensing; medicine; and orbital imaging. Living Optics claims the field of hyperspectral imaging is difficult for newcomers – lacking the


camera technology and software that computer vision developers are accustomed to in other areas. The firm is looking to tackle this with the launch of its developer-friendly camera capable of spectral imaging at video speeds. It also provides developer resources, such as a software development kit (SDK), as well as code samples and tutorials online. The camera measures 203 x 76 x 58mm, weighs less than 1kg, has a 10-40° field of view, captures

LS sink diode laser package Jenoptik has introduced a novel open heat sink diode laser package ‘LS’ for the optical pumping of next-generation solid-state-lasers. It offers significantly increased optical output power levels compared to the existing CS- package. While only slightly deviating from the


CS form factor, the LS features improved conductive cooling of the laser bar by virtue of a double-side cooled open-heat sink design. As a result, the LS offers superior performance compared to the CS with CW- output power levels exceeding 150W @ 9xx nm, thus enabling advanced pump- or direct- diode-laser (DDL) applications. Featuring an almost identical form factor as
