FESTIVALS & EVENTS English Folk Expo 2017 runs
from 19th – 22nd October 2017, the annual industry showcase for English folk, roots and acoustic music open to UK and international music promoters and programmers. It takes place in Manchester in partnership with the public-facing Manchester Folk Festival. The events showcase around forty emerging, mid- range and headline artists: Tom Robinson, Afro Celt Sound System, Kathryn Tickell & David Almond, Jon Boden & The Remnant Kings, False Lights, The Young'uns, John Smith, Josienne Clarke & Ben Walker, David Gibb, Jigdoll, Quiet Loner, Galleon Blast, Keston Cobblers Club, Nina

WOMEX in Katowice, Poland is the place to hear the next big things in music from around the world from 25th – 29th October

with showcases including: Alireza Ghorbani (Iran), Black Flower (Belgium), Dakh Daughters (Ukraine), Dimitris Mystakidis (Greece), Elkin Robinson (Colombia), Gato Preto (Mozambique/Ghana/ Senegal/Germany), Ifriqiyya Electrique (Tunisia/France), La Dame Blanche (Cuba/France), Leyla McCalla (Haiti/USA), MAZ (Canada), Night (Nepal), Park Jiha (South Korea), Qwanqwa (Ethiopia), Talisk (UK), Vasilis Kostas & Layth Sidiq Duo (Greece/ Jordan/USA), Waldemar Bastos (Angola/Portugal). The offWOMEX line-up includes: 47Soul, Alaw, Havana D’Primera, Juan Mari Beltrán, La Banda Morisca, Lankum and Txarango. Oumou Sangaré will receive this year’s WOMEX Artist Award as well as performing, and Petr Doruzka receives the Professional Excellence Award. Opening WOMEX 17 are a trio of renowned Polish folk groups, Volosi, Kapela Maliszów and Lautari and Kato Connections features nine artists representing Katowice’s many connections, from regional to international: Hanba!, Maniucha & Ksawery, Trio, Wozniak/Wachowiak/ Kinaszewsk, Banda, Haz’art Trio, Marta Topferova & Milokraj, Marcin Wyrostek Band, Osama Abdulrasol Quintet and Viola de Arame.

Barbican's Transcender series
in London returns this autumn from 28th September – 1st October with four concerts featuring a mix of transcendental and hypnotic music from across the globe, including Midori Takada, Visible Cloaks, Kayhan Kalhor, Rembrandt Trio, Susheela Raman and Different Trains.

K-Music 2017, London's Festival of Korean Music, runs until 25th October across a variety of city venues. The opening concert on 15th Sept at the Union Chapel features Black String and Kathryn Tickell, followed by dates with Heemoon Lee & Prelude, Jeduk Jeon & Juwon Park, Hyelim Kim & Alice Zawadzki, Woojae Park with Shogo Yoshii and Soumik Datta, Kingston Rudieska and more.
