ESG IN 2022
Like Covid, it feels as if ESG will always be with us. We are moving closer to the day when it will no longer be headline news, but part of our daily lives as citizens and investors. Last year, green gilts, the COP26 summit and more countries committing to carbon neutrality kept sustainability at the heart of investment conversations. As we welcome a new year, what will the main talking points of such discussions be in the coming 12 months? We have surveyed the thoughts of those entrusted to invest the capital of pension sav- ers to discover what they expect to be discussing with their clients in the year head. Climate, of course, is there as is the almost never-ending search for consistent and comparative data. Healthcare remains an issue – although it is not limited to Covid – and biodiversity is expected to continue challenging the notion that the E in ESG is only about the climate. You can read about these issues and more from page 26. Also in this edition, we ask if charities have got their investing mojo back as the uncertainty caused by Covid starts to lift (pages 36-39).
Our Diversity Club returns with a look at the highlights of our first webinar on the theme. No quick fix to making corporate leadership more diverse was the main head- line. You can read our coverage from page 42, which is followed by a look at how ESG is changing the nature of fiduciary duty (pages 46-49). Finally, the assistant executive director of the Greater Manchester Pension Fund discusses why investing locally gives him a buzz (pages 12-15).
We hope you enjoy the issue. Happy New Year!
